Denim is a wardrobe staple for everyone across the planet. From the fabric weight, colour and weave, there are many things to consider, when shopping for denim garments.
When looking for denim take a close attention to the fabric information; ideally you don't want any elastane within the garments or make sure it is below 2%. Elastane makes denim loose its shape easily after washing and easily wears out as the fabric is not as durable.
For me it's all about the fabric weight and weave, by touching the fabric between my index finger and thumb, I can identify the quality of fabric. My rule is you don't want anything less than 12-13oz denim which is classified as a mid weight denim that can be worn all year round.
It is also important to look at the stitching. My favourite colour thread that is typically used across constructed denim items is an orange colour. You don't want this too light or too dark depending on the colour wash of the denim.
After care is key to looking after any denim item in your wardrobe, make sure you read and understand the care instructions provided on the inside label. In order for the denim items to have a long life span we have to treat the garments with the care recommended by the supplier.
